PS3 to replace PS2. Why?

I heard from my friend that Sony are going to stop making PS2s and their games because of the PS3. I think this is a bad idea. I’m not saying I dislike the PS3, (if it’s more modern I appreciate that), but the console and games are so expensive. I cannot afford them and neither can my friend. If PS2s wear out how are we supposed to play its’ games? You can play PS1 games on a PS2, but you cannot play PS2 games on a PS3. Why cannot Sony have both? What do the rest of you think? I’ve set up a Yahoo Group «Save PS2″ if anyone wants to join.

AC4

I can’t get past the last stage of AC4. But I imagine 5 is going to be a real ‘nut buster’. (One of my favorite tactics is to come in hard, fast, smoke some Yellows; break hard right and do it all over again. Sometimes, I get really suicidal by playing chicken with the installations or the enemy jets–and wait till the last second to release my ordinance.)

The beach head scenario is my 5th favorite behind the oil rig stage, the city stage (the one with the carrier battle group), Stage 2, and of course–»Shattered Skies» (which is my all-time favorite kill joy!)

Stage 17 isn’t so bad. Plenty of jets to shoot down, plus Yellow 4 in the end.
(I really HATE those guys!)

The mountain range stage is by far one of the coolest. It’s almost like you are *there*. The panoramic view is just mind-boggling.

I use my Game Shark for the game, but I can’t use invincibility mode. It screws up the whole thing. But I don’t really need it. I like the idea of «dying» with unlimited missile ammo for the X-02.

Put the setting at maximum? And oooh…boy! Charlie-central! lol

Eye Toy

Hi all, I recently purchased an Eyetoy camera for my PS2 and I’d like to get more games for it. What are some good ones to get (I’ve already got Antigrav and Operation Spy and I’m currently bidding on the first Eyetoy: Play package)?

Eye Toy Play and Play 2 are both great games. We also picked up Sega Superstars and NickToons Movin’ which have a variety of games. There are a few Eye Toy «enhanced» games out there, like sports games that let you put your own face on your player and stuff. Unfortunately, EyeToy didn’t take off the way Sony hoped, and there just aren’t many games for it. If you go to playstation website then click on «Games» and then «Browse All Games» you can use the ystem filter and advanced filter to see what PS2 games there are with EyeToy support. Looking at that list, I’m reminded that Harry Potter 3 (Prisoner of Azkaban) has some good Eye Toy games on it. Gnome toss is especially fun and funny.
:) Here’s an edited list of what I got using the above method:

MLB 08 The Show
NBA 08 The Life Volume 3
SingStar 80′s
SingStar 80′s (Game Only)
SingStar Amped
SingStar Amped (Game Only)
SingStar Rocks!
NBA 07 featuring The Life Volume 2
MLB® ’06: The Show
EyeToy: Kinetic
EyeToy: Kinetic w/ Camera
EyeToy: Operation Spy
NBA ’06
Gretzky NHL ’06
EyeToy: Play 2
EyeToy: Play 2 with Camera
World Tour Soccer 2006
MLB® 2006
EyeToy: AntiGrav
Gretzky NHL® 2005
EyeToy: Groove
EyeToy: Groove (Game Only)
MLB® 2005
EyeToy: Play
Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore
Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA 2
World Series of Poker 2008: Battle for the Bracelets
Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol
Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA
World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer…
Dance Factory
And 1® Streetball
CMT Presents: Karaoke Revolution Country
Flow: Urban Dance Uprising
Stuart Little 3: Big Photo Adventure

World Championship Poker 2: Featuring Howard Lederer
Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland

Top Spin
DT Racer
World Series of Poker
World Championship Poker
The Urbz: Sims in the City
Sega® SuperStars
Nicktoons Movin’
Get On Da Mic

As you can see, most of them are singing and/or dancing games, and sports games where I’m pretty sure you just use the EyeToy to put your face on models. But, there are a few I didn’t know about. :)

Gran Turismo 4

I haven’t been on in awhile so i dont know if you all have really talked about it, but does anyone know when Gran Turismo 4 will be out? Seems like it has been pushed back 50 times or more. Probably not but seems like it. lol

According to GameFAQs, which usually gets the latest dates fairly quickly, says it’s due out on the 22nd of this month. Enjoy! :)

Me, I’m waiting for Midnight Club 3, which has also been postponed a few times, but at least it has on-line play. It’s also an arcade racer, which I prefer. I got GT3, and while it’s ok, it’s much too weighed down by the simulation aspect. Even after getting a game save with lots of cool cars, it could not hold my interest. I’m just not a sim freak. So, I won’t be getting GT4.
BTW: there’s a $20 rebate from Logitech if you buy the Driving Force Pro wheel and either GT4 or MC3. That tells me that MC3 is likely to support 900 degree steering, which makes me a happy boy. I can’t wait to hop in my VRC and play some Midnight Club 3 with realistic steering. :)

Game Data Corrupted?

The other day I wanted to play Gran-Turismo 4 on PS2. The problem was it wouldn’t load my game. It kept telling me that my Game Data was Corrupted and kept giving me that screen. I don’t would have happened to have caused that but I’m always careful with my game systems and my electronics. I’m really upset because as I’m sure many of you know it takes a long time to get anywhere in GT4. I had some pretty good cars and had worked fairly fair. I was wondering if there is anyway to fix this or anything I can do? What if anything can done?

Looking for PS1 games

Hello,
I was recently given a PS1 & have completed the Spyro the dragon game that came with it. I would love to find more games of any kind expecially more Spyro.
Thanks!

- You can buy cheap ones at ebay. I have about a 100 games if you want $3.00 each.

- There are also several Tomb Raider games for the PS1 system. The original Wipeout is a great futuristic racing game for PS1, and the Crash Bandicoot games are always a hoot. You should be able to find bunches of cheap PS1 games pretty much anywhere that sells games.

- Do you have a Hollywood Video/Game Craze by your house? If so, they’ve got a ‘Classic Plastic’ bin where all kinds of games from the older systems (like the PS1) can be found. In my area they were selling the old Ps1 disks for around 2/$5.50. Also Amazon.com, Half.com and Ebay.com are great places to pick up Psone games and accessories on the cheap. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Do you have any Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot or Driver games? I would defineltely be interested in those. Are you selling yours for $3 ea. if so then sure, I’ll take some! Let me know what you have & we can go from there o.k?

PS2/can’t read disc

Does anyone have any idea why our ps2 just stopped reading the disc’s? We have to fight with it to even read the disc to watch a movie. Is it just on it’s last leg? Can’t afford the ps3 yet so should we just get another ps2?

- Ah, the dreaded DRE. For the PS2, it’s like the Xbox’s Red Ring of Death. Sometimes it starts with one kind of disc, and allows you to read others, like it stops reading PS1, but plays PS2 fine, or vice versa. Inevitably, it will end up not reading anything. It’s a matter of when, not if. This is a well known problem with them, however, and Sony has been really good about it, even out of warranty for a lot of people (including me). First, call them up and go through the troubleshooting steps the tech takes you through. It’s possible that you will be offered a free repair (not including shipping it to them). At the very least, they will quote you a repair cost. In some cases, though, it’s cheaper to buy a used replacement or a PS2 slim, which supposedly doesn’t suffer from that problem. In any case, don’t assume they won’t help you out. It’s definitely worth calling Sony support before dropping the cash on a new one.

I recently discovered a problem with my Ps2 and I hope you people can help. I popped in a movie «The Bourne Ultimatum» and my PS2 would not let me watch it without temporarily resetting the «parental control» level and establishing a password. When I went into the Custom Setup menu and selected «Parental Control» option, the
system wouldn’t let me access the controls so I can disable Parental Control. What am I doing wrong?

Tiger Woods 07 help

Does anyone have any clues on setting up two players with two controllers in Tiger Woods 07? We seem to be able to play two players with two controllers as long as one of us plays as Tiger, the last time we tried we were successful at using our own profiles but it wouldn’t let us change the controller number so we could use two. We ended up having to share a
controller. The instructions that come with the game leave a lot to the imagination. I know someone said the game was a bit quirky but I’m thinking we are just not doing something right. I’ve looked for some online instructions for setting up a two player game but I’m not having much luck finding them.

PSone controllers on PS2

Which PSone controllers are forward compatible with the PS2? I already know that the Namco Guncon won’t work. What else?

Its’ been my experience that ps 1 controllers work fine with ps 1 games on the ps2 but not on ps2 games. And i’ve also found that on some ps 1 games the ps2 controller is a little fast or rather has incorrect handling of some ps 1 games but NOT all. But most games for the ps 2(all that i have) do not work with the ps 1 controller. So keep at least one ps 1 controller for yourself for ps 1 games on the ps 2. Lotsa great games on ps 2 out there, enjoy. Also KEEP a ps 1 memory card if you have one, ps 2 will not save ps 1 games on a ps 2 memory card. But your ps 2 will handle your ps 1 memory card just like your ps 1 in SLOT 1(that is my experience with SONY memory cards).

Well said Beignets2003, regarding memory cards. In my experience the controller issue is less cut and dried. I have several PS2 games that work with  a PS1 controller including Tiger Woods 2008 which is quite sensitive and only a
few months old. (I spent a week using a PS1 controller with my PS2 when my original PS2 controller stopped performing, some games do work but by no means all). You should check the spec on your TV and the lightgun before purchasing. Many televisions of over 60hz and some of high definition will not accept them. Obviously there must be some out there or manufacturers will be losing business.
Games I’m loving…Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Digital Devil 2, Ico, Okami, Half-Life. What are your current distractions?

Metal Gear Solid 4 Demo

At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony had a special visitor at its booth as Konami was on hand to show off a playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 4. This is the same demo that was on display during the 2007 E for All expo in Los Angeles, so there weren’t too many revelations made during our demonstration, however, we were able to get some hands on time with the game and many of our worries were put to rest.

One of the features found in Metal Gear Solid 4 is that the game is fully compliant with the new Dual Shock 3 controller, so we were able to feel every shot that we fired and every bullet that hit us in the game, and this could be a solid indication that Sony is back on track with the force feedback functionality that it’s current home console is missing.

Another thing that we noticed is that the game looks absolutely stunning. Everything is rendered in fine detail from the war-torn middle-eastern city that the level took place in, right down to the individual hairs on Snake’s ‘stache. When we asked whether or not the game will be able to run at 60 fps at 1080p, Konami said that things were still being optimized and they can’t promise anything, things were on the right track.

Though Kojima Productions and Konami aren’t ready to announce a final release date, they did mention to us that we should hear that announcement in late February. As soon as Konami formally announces a date for MGS 4, we’ll be sure to let you know, but until then, expect Solid Snake’s latest adventure to arrive sometime during Q2, 2008.

Houston we have a problem :)

Hello there gang, I have a problem and I hope you guys can help me out. I’ve been using «Hip Gear» brand Psone memory cards to store the data from my PSone games. Recently my PS2 has been giving me error messages when I’ve tried to either read or write from them. When I broke out my old Psone I couldn’t get it to recognize them (it would give me the error message «memory card not inserted» even when the memory card was firmly put into place-and trying another card gives me the same message). Has anyone else received a lot of problems with the «Hip Gear» brand of memory card as I have? What’s a good memory card brand to use for the PSone? Please advise.

Thanks.

I saw a clip somewhere and the guy was putting a 80GB harddrive in a Playstation2,Can it be done? and how would that work. I have a 80 Gb hard drive just sitting here,Would be nice to do something with it.

Just for company’s to make money for you to buty cards to save your game on the cards. Yes its a shame how they do that today. ust wished saga staied in business they had good units even a compact unit had one that was nice two types you could use in them for
it being so small. Not sure if i still have mine. But will sell it i find it again. (Lee)

cheat codes

> I have some cheat codes, but were do I enter them? In RE4 I tried
> every menu but I’m still clueless.

Depends on the game and the code. Some cheat codes are button combos that need
to be entered at a particular screen, like the menu, in play, or the pause
screen. Some games even have a cheat code section where you can enter codes that
you have found. Others are for specific hardware…

> Also, looking on the gameshark website (a product which has proven
> itself to be a waste of money) it states that «M» must be on. What
> does that mean?

Probably something to do with the gameshark itself, in some funky menu or
something. I can’t help you with that, though.

A favorite site among this group’s members is GameFAQs at www.gamefaqs.com where
you can find help of many kinds for almost every game in existence, for free,
just waiting for you to find it or ask for it in the right place.

I been reading and it seems normal but my question is how long can it withstand the heat? And would it be a good idea to get a external fan on it or intercooler? If so i found this one do you think it would do the job without causing issues?

Question About Disk Back-Ups

8
Июн/09
0

I have a PS2 slimline for my son who is 5. I was reading about backing up the disks that you have bought which would be good since he has aready wrecked several PC game disks. I have read on several blogs where they talked about a disk swap program as well as a flip top hardware. I’m totaly confused. What do I need to do to play the games that I bought for him that I have made backup copies of? Would love some help of someone who understands this.

- Your options are a modchip (best option in my opinion but more expensive) and the swap disk but I dont like them.

- I disagree about the swap discs. I have found them very reliable, easy to use and you don’t invalidate your warranty/guarantee by  soldering a permanent chip. Just do a search on ‘Swap Magic’ and you will find numerous sites to buy it from. All you have to do is put the Swap Magic disc in first, then when prompted replace it with your back up game. You can buy additional pieces of kit that convince the PS2 the lid is still closed. There is a very helpful Youtube guide to this procedure, (including a superior method with tissue paper and tape rather than the ‘extra’ bits for the lid which I bought, bah) which I found easy to follow and I’m rubbish with tools lol. I’m able to copy games to either DVD or CD using Nero6. All in all very satisfactory. I’m up for swaps if anyone in the UK is also into it.

- You see, everybody thinks different. For me the best is the easiest and faster way ,a modchip.. With a modchip just put the game and play. With the swap disk, like paranoid said you have to swap…..but you have a little hook to open the tray to do the swap or you need get another case, also  he forgot to add the part where you have to pray for the game to boot or you are going to have to prepare the game to do it, I see people with swap disc in forums always asking if X game will work with a swap disc. At the end I guess both are good. but modchips are better. The only con about modchip is to open the case to instal the chip and loosing your warranty but with a swap disc if you replace your case, is the same, no more warranty.

I think both the chip and the swap disc have their good points. With the swap disc I have had maybe one in 50 discs fail to read, there is a greater failure rate in the copying process, especially with games companies who insert deliberate data breaks in their video intros for example, rental versions particularly. Opinions are likely to fluctuate depending on whether one has been able to play a favourite game or not (it plays = good, it doesn’t = it’s bad). My PSX is chipped (but it’s slower anyway lol) and the chips for that were unreliable for the first couple of years. If the chip fails, you don’t have a working console anymore. The chips are more reliable now, but if they die, you need to get the chip off again and hope it hasn’t taken the PS2 down with it. Perhaps the disc swap makes less sense now that it’s harder to find a new PS2 with full warranty anyway. One should bear in mind the number of people who are unhappy opening a piece of kit and using a soldering iron. Many people, including the originator of this strand, have bought the console for their kids and just want to walk away after setting it up. The slot case version of Swap Magic is pretty lame and far less attractive than the tissue and tape method which leaves the PS2 with it’s original appearance and can be found on Youtube under PS2 mod or PS2 swap disc I think.

Playstation 2 vs. Playstation 3

8
Июн/09

I hope everyone is well. I not sure if all questions have to be related to the ps2. But here it goes…….I know this may appear to be a crazy question on the surface. I love my ps2. My question is does anyone think that the ps3 is worth the price. I thinking about buying one. However, I don’t think it’s worth the price. Dollar for dollar is it better than the ps2 ?

- Only if you can get one of the 60gb PS3s that has the PS2 chip inside for (more or less) full backward compatability. If you get the new 40gb without PS2 compatability (at all), then you’ll have to keep your PS2 around for those games. To some that’s no big deal, but to some it is.

Also, do you have high speed internet access? The PS3 really is much more useful with it, ‘cus you can get all the free demo games, inexpensive PSN games, movie trailers, themes, wallpapers, web browsing (which can play YouTube videos ;-) not to mention online gaming.

If you have an HDTV, then the PS3 is great for HD everything, from games to photo slideshows. With an HDTV, you can also make full use of the Blu-Ray movie player in the PS3 and get the high def movie experience. If you’ve got a good sound system, then you’re in for a treat.

But, if you’ve still got a regular TV, slow internet (or no desire for demo games and stuff), and an enormous PS2 collection with no desire for any available PS3 games, then you might as well save your money.

Even someone without a PS2, I would encourage to buy a PS3 only if they can get the one(s) with full PS2  compatability (that being the 20gb and 60gb versions). The 20gb version probably the best bet for price, since
it’s «old» and the drive can be replaced with a bigger one if you need more room.
